Secure Decisions Wins Contract to Support the Development of DARPA’s National Cyber Range
Division of Applied Visions, Inc. is the only New York company participating in this program in support of the nation’s cyber security
NORTHPORT, NY, June 29, 2010 – The Secure Decisions Division of Applied Visions, Inc. (AVI) has been
awarded a contract of approximately $1 million to support the Phase II
development of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency
(DARPA)-sponsored National Cyber Range (NCR) program. The Range will be
a national asset for evaluating technologies to enhance the security of
our country's cyber infrastructure. AVI's Secure Decisions Division was
awarded the contract as a member of the Johns Hopkins University
Advanced Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL) team and is the only New York
organization participating in the development of the NCR
prototype.
The Secure Decisions Division is responsible for supporting the
development of software that controls, monitors, and manages the Range
itself and the progress of active cyber experiments within the Range.
Secure Decisions will also support the development of visualization
capabilities for managing the Range and experiments. Other members of
the JHU/APL team include Sandia National Laboratory, Idaho National
Laboratory, Raytheon's BBN Technologies, University of Utah, CenGen,
Drakontas, OPNET, Verizon Federal Network Systems, and Skaion
Corporation.
This undertaking is a significant achievement and an exciting
challenge for the Northport, New York‐based small business. Frank Zinghini, Jr., CEO
of Applied Visions, said, “This award is a demonstration of the
government’s faith in small business, and its recognition of the talent
and expertise that small businesses can bring to technology development
efforts at the national level. AVI is dedicated to engineering
excellence and the pursuit of national security. Our Secure Decisions
division has applied our research and engineering skills to making
computer networks and critical cyber infrastructure safer against
attacks. Secure Decisions’ cyber security products are being used right
now within the U.S. government IT and intelligence communities.”
Dr. Anita D’Amico, Director of Secure Decisions, is a prolific
advocate of securing the nation’s networks and critical infrastructure,
and has testified before Congress on this issue. She
affirmed that “We are excited and honored to be part of this national
commitment to cyber security. The National Cyber Range program elevates
our country’s attention to cyber operations. Our technology‐driven
economy depends on secure computer networks; we must ensure that our
cyber infrastructure can perform and our economy can continue to
function, even under attack.
“This national initiative will allow U.S. companies as well as government to evaluate the efficacy of cyber security solutions in a controlled, scientific environment. It will also enhance the academic community’s ability to develop innovations in cyber security. Secure Decisions is proud to be a part of the National Cyber Range program.”
