SISO Spring 2008 SIW Paper: "The Jagged Joystick"

The Spring 2008 Simulation Interoperability Workshop (SIW), sponsored by the Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO), was held in Providence, RI April 14-18, 2008. Secure Decisions researchers presented "The Jagged Joystick: Game Technology for Net-Centric Training Simulations," which discussed challenges and opportunities related to the use of game technology for training entry level cyber defense.

Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization

The paper, authored by Mark Underwood, Dan Tesone, Anita D'Amico and Ken Doris, discusses research conducted as part of a Phase 1 SBIR cyberdefense training project called SimBLEND. The full paper will be available at the SISO site later in 2008.  The paper is also available here.

The Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO) was formed in 1989 to develop standards for sharing technology across simulation environments. SISO is responsible for the Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) and High Level Architecture (HLA) standards. These standards, developed by SISO members, are codified in IEEE standards 1516, 1516.1, 1516.2, 1516.3, 1278.1, 1278.2, 1278.3, and 1278.4.

SimBLEND is sponsored by the Air Force Research Laboratory's Warfighter Readiness Research Division (AFRL/HEA), based in Mesa, AZ.  In 2008, Secure Decisions was awarded a Phase 2 SBIR contract to continue work on SimBLEND.
